I would guess that’s because Warner had a deal with YouTube that allowed people to use Warner’s music on their videos. And now Warner is the one demanding all their songs be taken down because they couldn’t agree on continuing that deal – meaning they wanted more money. So in a way YouTube by offering the soundtracks for use and now having to take them down introduced users to the wonderful world of licensing. This is something that filmmakers have been suffering in more traditional fields. For example some documentary filmmakers can no longer distribute their films because they have licensed footage or music for a fixed time period (because of costs – unlimited license would have been insanely expensive). WHen the license runs out then it’s pretty much curtains for that documentary.

I understand your point of view, but I think our view will be colored by whether this is a loan word from English or is a Chinese equivalent word of an English word. If one views this as an equivalent word to the English “cool”, then I would agree with you. But if one thinks this is a loan word in which an hanzi was found that had a meaning similiar to the English, then I would disagree with you. This may appear as hair-splitting, but I do not think so. My own opinion is that it is a loan word because of the nature of the word itself. It is more slang, used by young people and is more fashionable, all characteristics of a loan word; rather than an attempt to find an equivalent word in Chinese for an English word, equivalents will usually be assoicated with attempts of to translate. But no matter which direction it takes, you will be right in that this particular word is different from most because it has both a sound similiarity and a root meaning that has similiarities in both languages.

The very root of your writing while sounding agreeable originally, did not really work very well with me personally after some time. Someplace within the paragraphs you were able to make me a believer unfortunately just for a very short while. I still have got a problem with your leaps in logic and you would do nicely to help fill in those gaps. If you actually can accomplish that, I will definitely end up being impressed.
