Blowing Our Own Horn (not what you’re thinking… perverts)
Hey look at Penned In Comic! Today we just pumped out our 100th strip, and we didn’t even need an epidural. I want to give props to the folks who have loyally followed as well as the occasional passer bys that let us grace their screens from time to time. And I also want to thank the people closest to me for putting up with me sacrificing our time to allow this experiment to flourish. Much love and thanks.
The best is yet to come. I plan to, in the not to distant future, revamp the look of our site, along with changing the format of the strip itself to allow for more encompasing storylines and a more diverse cast of characters. Hopefully my schemes are not too grand, but what the hell, last year at this time we’d never done a webcomic, and almost a year later, we’re still here… Hazaa!

I have a blackberry now from Verizon which doesn’t allow me to dload the GPS (so I use my Garmin) but with the previous phone I had I used to use it and there is a way in settings under volume where there is a master volume setting where you can put it all the way to the top (usually factory set mid-high) and then on calls you can lower it a bit but the applications automatically start out at that highest volume – kind of like how you can adjust your TV volume with the TV remote to a certain level then work around it with the cable remote

Hey Marck_Don, thanks for your comment. Although sometimes IDEs can be a hassle. I really think that autocompletion, intellisense, warnings without compiling, and of course debugging in an IDE are so much easier than using just a text editor that I can really recommend it. Ofcourse some languages don’t really lend themselves very good for an IDE (PHP anyone?). I think C++ is not one of those languages. Of course some people like a bit lighter application to develop, I’ve heard good things about VIM for example, some autocompletion and intellisense, without being such a heavy application. In the end it all comes down to what you prefer . (Also, Netbeans is really not the fastest IDE, I dont understand all those JAVA based IDEs anyways, especially Eclipse is slow as hell).

The very root of your writing while sounding agreeable originally, did not really work very well with me personally after some time. Someplace within the paragraphs you were able to make me a believer unfortunately just for a very short while. I still have got a problem with your leaps in logic and you would do nicely to help fill in those gaps. If you actually can accomplish that, I will definitely end up being impressed.

I understand your point of view, but I think our view will be colored by whether this is a loan word from English or is a Chinese equivalent word of an English word. If one views this as an equivalent word to the English “cool”, then I would agree with you. But if one thinks this is a loan word in which an hanzi was found that had a meaning similiar to the English, then I would disagree with you. This may appear as hair-splitting, but I do not think so. My own opinion is that it is a loan word because of the nature of the word itself. It is more slang, used by young people and is more fashionable, all characteristics of a loan word; rather than an attempt to find an equivalent word in Chinese for an English word, equivalents will usually be assoicated with attempts of to translate. But no matter which direction it takes, you will be right in that this particular word is different from most because it has both a sound similiarity and a root meaning that has similiarities in both languages.

I would guess that’s because Warner had a deal with YouTube that allowed people to use Warner’s music on their videos. And now Warner is the one demanding all their songs be taken down because they couldn’t agree on continuing that deal – meaning they wanted more money. So in a way YouTube by offering the soundtracks for use and now having to take them down introduced users to the wonderful world of licensing. This is something that filmmakers have been suffering in more traditional fields. For example some documentary filmmakers can no longer distribute their films because they have licensed footage or music for a fixed time period (because of costs – unlimited license would have been insanely expensive). WHen the license runs out then it’s pretty much curtains for that documentary.
