The Doug Jones
Sunday, September 28th, 2008Hello from glorious Sacramento, CA. As you may or may not have read in the last few postings, there is/was a series of conventions here this weekend: Friday and Saturday has the Sac Sci-fi and Horror con, and Sunday features the Comic, Toy and Anime con. After not attending any type of convention in who knows how many years (13 to be exact), I thought it would be cool to get back into it and try a couple of locals, hopefully a precursour the promised land also known as next summers San Diego Comic Con. And although it was probably the smallest con that I personally have attended, it had a few guests that I really enjoyed meeting.
The first and best personality that I was able to meet and get an autograph from was the great Doug Jones! Doug is one of those people whom you would probably not recognize in person because he is almost always covered in makeup or digitally enhanced, but many of you know of the characters he plays.
Abe Sapien from Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Silver Surfer from 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer and the next years Silver Surfer movie
Pan from Pan’s Labyrinth
All great characters, but the man behind the faces was nothing short of awsome. Congenial, polite, and extremely flattered and appreciative of the fans and people in general of whom he met. Glad to have met him. Overall the event was fun and I would recommend going to one at least once, just to say you’ve done it and to see and meet people you wouldn’t normally get to. Good times…
Mike G.
